TradingView Indicator · How I run it
How I run DML - my setup, start to finish.
The settings I keep on, the scopes I leave off, and how I read the manipulation and distribution levels off the open.
00
Quick start
Five steps from a blank chart to the setup I actually trade.
- Use an intraday chart. Levels are projected from the current period open.
- Leave only the Daily scope on.
- Set Calculation Lookback to 60 and Calculation Method to Mean.
- Keep Visible Elements on Both, Line Position on Current Bar, and Labels on.
- Add one more scope at a time, and set alerts last.
Good to know
A touch of a level is a reference point, not a signal on its own.
01
Timeframe and scopes
Let the Daily scope do the work.
Daily scope on
The only scope on by default.
4H, Weekly and the three sessions off
Off until I want them.
02
What stays on
The settings I do not touch.
Calculation Lookback 60
Calculation Method Mean
I switch to Both when I want to see the mean and median as a zone.
Visible Elements Both
Line Position Current Bar
Labels on
So I can read O, + D, - D, + M, - M at a glance.
Include Neutral Candles off
03
How I read it
Five things, in order.
- Find the open line. Everything is measured from it.
- Manipulation levels are how far price usually pokes the wrong way first. In a bullish period that is below the open, in a bearish one above.
- Distribution levels are how far it usually runs in the close direction.
- + D and - M come from past bullish periods. - D and + M come from past bearish ones.
- A touch of a level is a reference point, not a signal on its own.
04
Clean use list
Keep the chart readable and know the quirks.
Scopes
Turn on one at a time (Daily, then add a session). Stacking 4H, Daily, Weekly and three sessions is a wall of lines.
Both method
Use Both only when you want zones. Zones only draw when the method is Both.
Daily anchor 18:00 NY
The default fits CME futures. On stocks or with a custom anchor, the open and the daily stats can be defined differently, so treat levels as approximate there.
Past projections
The levels draw on the latest bar only. Scrolling back does not show past projections, so there is nothing to backtest from the chart.
Live shifts
Projections shift while the current open and the newest period stats update.
Alerts available
Only the four daily mean levels have alerts. Session, 4H, Weekly and Median levels do not.
Alerts
Set alerts last. TradingView freezes your settings into the alert.
05
A clean use
What a readable chart looks like.
- Daily scope on, plus at most one session.
- Method on Mean. Both only when I want zones.
- Labels on so O, + D, - D, + M, - M read at a glance.
